We report on a comprehensive experimental study of the valence band and core level photoemission as well as resonant x-ray absorption on potassium intercalated single wall carbon nanotubes. The spectroscopic investigations comprise the distinct and detailed changes in the conduction and valence band, respectively. The spectroscopic findings are corroborated by first-principle calculations. We present a conclusive picture of successive doping regimes in single wall carbon nanotubes, which also accounts for earlier findings from electron energy loss spectroscopy. Different successive doping regimes and heterogenous metallic states are identified for n-type doped single wall carbon nanotubes.
